Education and Children

Recently, I heard about a student from a school in Yan'an who jumped off a building. It is reported that this child, who ended their own life, had good grades and was kind to others. It's a pity that such a young life ended so early. Prior to this, there were also reports in the social media circle about a 9-year-old elementary school student jumping off a building. Perhaps incidents of students jumping off buildings have occurred frequently in the past. However, based on my observations, the reasons for such negative educational environments may include the following aspects: 1. Changes in the social environment have led to parents lacking the energy and time to accompany their children. Due to economic downturn, pressures from mortgages, car loans, and reduced salaries or even job layoffs, finding new employment is difficult. Society is filled with resentment, anger, and helplessness. When parents return home, they may already be exhausted and may even vent their frustrations on their children. They rarely have the energy and time to oversee their children's studies or communicate with them about their psychological changes, how they interact with other classmates at school, what beneficial activities they want to do with their parents, and so on. 2. Teachers in schools face great pressure, with attendance, superiors' inspections, and various administrative tasks beyond teaching taking up a lot of time. Therefore, under the directive that "grades determine everything," school teachers are forced to become study machines, rather than living, breathing individuals. 3. There is a lack of mutual trust between parents, teachers, and schools. Life is extremely precious, and once lost, it cannot be regained. In unfavorable circumstances, as parents, teachers, and others, we should try to avoid negative influences: learn to think independently, listen to children's thoughts and needs more attentively, accompany them in solving problems, and support their growth. At the same time, help children develop a strong and loving psychological world. As Taiwanese educator Liu Yung said, to help children adapt to society early on, we should give them preventive measures in advance. This may strengthen the child's mind. Additionally, I believe that children should find their own interests and strengths, find joy in learning and life, and fill their world with love.
